I probably won't be able to answer them all in this video, but I'll give you some basic facts so you can get a better idea of how it may be useful to you in everyday life. But, you should be aware that there are both positive and negative facts about solar energy to consider. Let's start with the answer to a basic question: what is solar energy. Solar energy comes from the light of the sun, not from heat. so even cold climates can produce power when the sun is shining. One of the most interest...

It is obviously designed to be used in cities and in the traffic so it has pretty big ground clearance, most probably very good turning circle, full cover etc.The solar panels are integrated in the roof and on the rear side which gives it a very special look. Maybe not so aerodynamic, but this velomobile is not supposed to be a racing machine but more to be a practical vehicle for everyday use.

  • CDR KING Solar Panels

In this video I take a look at the 50 watt and 80 watt solar panels from CDR-KING. I've been checking my local stores, calling and emailing for about 6 months and then finally one of my local stores had stock. So I rushed there the same day and bought the panels. The output power from the panels is well within spec and in some cases, above spec. I tested them under near perfect conditions. I tested them on a bright sunny day in Metro Manila, with just a few groups of clouds in the sky. Pretty much an average day in summer time Philippines. The most accurate way to measure a solar panel is to connect a load, for example a high wattage 12v bulb and then use two multimeters to measure the volts and amps while the bulb is being lit. The aluminium frame feels pretty heavy and sturdy but it...

  • Solar FREAKIN Roadways, are they real?

Solar FREAKIN roadways is a nice idea, but then again is a pogostick that can hop to the moon as a cheap, reusable trans-orbital vehicle. Is it plausible though. Well it basically proposes the union of 3 or 4 technologies. LED lights, solar panels, and glass roads. Glass really isn't a feasible material to make roads out of. 1) its too expensive. Just coating the US road system with roads would cost many times the federal budget. 2) Its too soft. Even with a textured surface for traction, it will wear away too quickly. Dirt on roads is basically small rocks, which are generally much harder than glass. Imagine taking a handful of dirt and rubbing it a window. Now imagine doing that with the wheels of a 20 ton tractor/trailer. 3) I have doubts about the physical properties of the gla...

Elon Musk says solar energy is important to further Mars and space exploration. Elon Musk: "I think solar energy is probably fairly significant for Mars and what's gonna be quite important is having a very light-weight solar system, you know, both volumetrically and gravimetrically dense. So actually we're playing with different concepts, like you know that thing, that party thing where you inflate it and it rolls out? The thing? One of the solar concepts is to have like a big roll that you just basically inflate and it rolls out with like really thin solar panels on it. But it's gonna be pretty important, cause really, you either gotta do that or nuclear. And you know nuclear has it's challenges, but for solar it's pretty straight-forward. So I think solar is very important to the fut...

Looks like the Nevada UFO, recently photographed at the end of October 2015, is probably a solar array. Subscribe for more strange and unsual news! ShantiUniverse: https://www.youtube.com/user/shantiuniverse Emil Enchev: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSdiac5BLasT4x3hEFol2-Q This was first put forward by ShantiUniverse in the comments section, who hosts a great channel. You should check it out, a link will be in the description. It was later put forward again by Emil Enchev, who provided further proof that it was not a UFO but a solar array. Again, a link to his channel will be in the description. For the record, I am not saying it is not a true UFO, I am just saying that with the evidence provided to me, it seems unlikely. Here you can see the photograph of the UFO, which has appeared in a lot of media outlets lately. Here you can see the Nevada solar array named the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project. Take a close look at the shape. It has the same tail section as the structure in the photo which is said to be a UFO. They both are the same shape. In the same location. So the chances that they are the same object, is pretty high, given that they are such a unique shape and colour. It is also worth noting, as pointed out wisely by Shanti Universe, that the reflection from the solar panels is creating glare in the glass of the airplane window, giving out an effect as if light is emerging from the solar array. So it looks like it is not a UFO, in my opinion. Sometimes photographs like this are just too good to be true. From now on, I will make a greater effort to look more closely at the UFO pictures I post. This will not always be possible right away, but I will reflect on them, and if they turn out to be something else, then I will make a video on them. Use of this video content is at your own risk. Credits; Music By: Jason Shaw (RP-MedTempoRock) http://www.audionautix.com Project Inspired By: fencekid http://youtu.be/p7dvd959wfg My "Solar Scorcher" project was originally inspired by Dan Rojas of GreenPowerScience: http://youtu.be/JkgFk15uBxw (Fresnel Lens Giant "Big Daddy") Project History & More Info: These TV's are old, extremely heavy, and are breaking down on people everywhere. They usually cost more to fix than they could be sold for, so people are begging you to come take them away for free! I usually find mine on the classified ads under the "free" section, but they are also common on the sides of streets and alleyways where people have left them for trash. PLEASE NOTE: These lenses are found in "rear-projection" televisions and not all are the same. Some are discolored, and some concentrate to a beam rather than a point. The particular screen I found was a crystal clear acrylic lens that focused to a point. It may have been luck that I found it on my first try, because 3 TV's after that all had lesser grade lenses, but still produced enough heat to melt zinc. Just FYI! You can also see http://youtu.be/xExXjXm0YV0 for examples of these different lenses. It was brought to my attention that Kipkay did a project like this a couple of years ago that he called the "Solar Death Ray". It's probably where FenceKid got the idea, which in turn, inspired me. Researchers started cataloguing them with the Kepler space telescope a few years ago. And in a new study published in Nature, researchers say the sun is capable of emitting a superflare of its own — even if that's unlikely. Most superflares come from stars that are more magnetically active than our home star, but about 10 percent of the superflare examples researchers analyzed came from stars with similar or even weaker fields. The closest thing we've ever seen to a superflare from the sun is probably the Carrington Event. In 1859, the sun launched a flare so energetic it damaged Earth's ozone layer and set telegraph offices on fire. Experts say a flare that powerful today could do billions of dollars in long-term damage to satellite networks and electrical transformers. Those aren't the sort of things we keep plenty of spares for. And Carrington was a relatively weak example compared to the energies involved in superflares. The good news, according to the researchers, is our solar activity records show these events only come along every millennium or so. What's more, we would probably see unprecedented sunspot activity beforehand, so at least we'd know it's coming. Get additional information about solar energy by visiting these websites: Greendiyenergy Solar,Wind Energy DIY Guide http://bit.ly/1eigJVV Green Powered Home http://bit.ly/17N09IN Stirling Power Plant http://bit.ly/18PYwKz Transcript: You probably have a lot of questions about solar energy. One of the most interesting positive facts about solar energy is its huge potential. The amount of sunlight that comes to earth in a single day - if it could be harnessed - would supply all the electricity needs for every human being on the planet for an entire year. Also, solar is a renewable energy resource that will last for a couple billion more years. We never run out. One of the most important facts about solar energy is that it doesn't hurt the atmosphere. It doesn't pollute or generate carbon dioxide, which a lot of people believe is changing global climate - and not for the better. There's also no noise pollution with solar energy. Electricity is created silently when sunlight hits a solar panel. The sunlight reacts with materials in the panel to produce an electrical charge. This charge can be converted to direct current (DC) to be used in homes. If a home with solar panels generates more power than the home uses, the homeowner may even be able to sell some of the excess to a power company for use on its electrical power grid. Electricity created by home solar energy can be used in dozens of ways - just like electricity from the power company. Heating water, running appliances and providing light are all possibilities for home solar energy. By making your home energy independent in this way, you also make your country more energy independent - freeing it from the need to import oil from other countries. When you have home solar energy, you don't need to worry about power outages - or rate increases by your utility company. Another of the more interesting facts about solar energy is its potential in the transportation industry, although admittedly, practical solar applications for mass transit in the U.S. are probably years away. Solar technology for cars has been developed, but it's not nearly advanced enough for the needs of modern vehicles yet. However, it's interesting to note that a couple of years ago a small aircraft powered strictly by solar energy flew across the entire United States. So those facts are about solar energy that sound positive and promising, But there are other facts that you need to understand.. For one thing, solar panels take up a lot of space. That means solar energy "farms" would have to be huge to provide a significant percentage of a large city's electricity supply. There's also large investment or up front cost to installing solar - especially in a home. It can take years to recover your investment, even though solar equipment is nearly maintenance-free once it's installed. Plus, some geographical areas are more suited to solar power than others. If you live in an area where it's gets cloudy a lot, solar energy may not be sufficient for your needs. Furthermore, your output from solar panels will be reduced if they are shaded by trees or other structures.

The aluminium frame feels pretty heavy and sturdy but it's not as strong and well built as my panels from Japan. I accidentally bashed one of the panels against a wall and the aluminium corner seam parted a little. Even so, they're more than suitable for the task and provide a good solid mounting option. I can't comment on the lifetime of the cdrking solar panels or the cells but I don't foresee any major issues. I also give a quick look at the charge controller from cdr king which I'll probably do a separate video on in the future.

3) I have doubts about the physical properties of the glass to take the load and mechanical heat stress required of a road making material. Solar panels under the road is a bad idea from the start. If they are under the roads, they are hard to maintain. They will have reduced light from parked cars etc. They are fragile. Not really congenial to the conditions you are likely to get on a road. In many ways building a shed over the road, or just having solar panels by the side of the road is a far better idea. However the power transport really isnt practical. One of the most efficient ways to transport electricity around is as high voltage AC. However to build those lines would probably double the cost of any construction. To bury the cables is even more expensive. LEDs for variable road marking have been partially implemented. They are usually only cost effective in dynamic traffic management systems. For most roads its utterly pointless as the road markings almost never need to be altered. These LED are usually not easy to see (especially in full daylight when the solar panels are meant to be generating power). However solar powered roadways has generated well over a million dollars for Julie and Scott Brusaw (a therapist and an engineer). I'm still on the fence as to if they are just delusional dreamers or (now millionaire) con artists. A lot of this looks like just direct 'what if' daydreaming, but then you get the part of the promotional video where they are shoveling ground up coloured glass into a wheelbarrow, while narrating that they use as many recycled materials as possible in this project. It's very difficult to not see that as a direct lie. They must know full well that they did not use any of that material in the construction of their glass tiles. He said it does, but the sticker label on the back is misleading. The sticker label says the controller will accept an input of 5V-63V, but since this is a custom voltage setpoint of 20V, the real upper limit is more like 34-36V. He said he is 99% sure that using two 12V solar panels in series would be fine, but it would also be pushing the limit. If you KNOW you're always going to be using this with two 12V panels, consider getting the (cheaper) buck style lithium charger controller from Genasun instead. Don't use two 100W 12V panels in parallel with the GV-Boost. You'll exceed the 8A rating. Just don't do it. I also asked about using the GV-Boost as a 12V power adapter (think, car cigarette lighter instead of a solar panel). The genasun FAQ states: "Genasun solar charge controllers, can charge from a DC source PROVIDED that the input voltage is within spec and the input power is limited such that the rated output current (input current for the GVB series) of the Genasun controller is not exceeded." Boz with Genasun tech support said the quote above is old information. He said the programming has been updated since then. He told me a 12V lead acid battery (rather than a solar panel) would probably work, but it's not something they test on a regular basis ( MPPT doesn't work if your solar panel is a 12V car battery, so it's a really weird use case ), so do so at your own risk. The safest solution for 12V power is to use a high quality pure sine wave inverter. My Go Power 300W pure sine wave inverter ( [affiliate] http://amzn.to/1Q1MNNs ), while bulky, only draws about 3 watts in addition to whatever my mac wall wart is drawing. The efficiency of the genuine mac 85W wall wart appears to be similar to the efficiency of GV-Boost, in my testing. It's bulky and heavy and awkward, but using a high quality pure sine inverter with your existing mac wall wart is probably the safest and cheapest solution for 12V power. It does use a little more power ( 3W ), but the advantage is that you can use your genuine mac wall wart.

Nick Hodgson explains why individuals should study, plan and prepare for such a likely event, in order to avoid great hardship and hunger. Life insurance and protection requires many different approaches and this is probably one worst case scenario you have not thought of but need to. What is solar cooking and how can it be a sustainable solution for the world? Ph.D. student Matthew Alonso explains. We've all probably seen some form of solar cooking. Many of us made solar ovens out of cardboard boxes as a science experiment as a kid. Now, researchers at the University of Illinois are turning that simple idea into a live-saving innovation.

So I think solar is very important to the future exploration of Mars for sure." See full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=H0UUhFTZr0I#t=1745

A look at the current solar cycle, solar cycle 24. Solar has (probably) been reached, but the video looks at where the solar cycle may be heading next. The video also compares solar cycle 24 with solar cycle 5 and attempts to look at the next solar cycle, solar cycle 25 and the possibility that it may compare to solar cycle 6. Solar cycles 5 and 6 were during the Dalton Minimum when the UK and Europe experienced many cold or severe winters. Further updates on solar cycle 24 and solar cycle 25 will follow so keep checking back to my channel and my website.
